ReCREATION Reno

Reno is recreation country. It’s a “river-city-ski-town”. If you look in any garage in Reno you’re sure to find a snowboard, mountain bike, or a tackle box. We’re hikers, horse riders, and tubers. In good weather and bad, dog parks and trails are occupied. You can ski, kayak, and bowl in the same day. Reno is unique because of this and therefore defined by it.

Whether you’re along the banks of the Truckee River or among the pines on the slopes of the Sierra, this is a region where the air is healthy, the scenery spectacular and every path leads to a different adventure. If you’re not from Reno, it’s worth the journey and don’t forget your camera.

Truckee Meadows Trail GuidA few years ago, the cities of Reno and Sparks with Washoe County and the RSCVA pooled resources to create a guide about trails in and around the Truckee Meadows. The guide was subsidized by a Federal Highway Administration Recreational Trails Program grant and donations from Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center and Scheels. The 68-page guide can be accessed at Reno.gov.

In Defining Reno, I’ve showcased a few examples of excellent brand positioning in the Giving a Hand to the Brand series. Utah’s tourism department certainly belongs in the category. Their creative approach to illustrate their recreation country is brilliant. From design to copy to videography, the Explore the Mighty Five campaign is what we creative’s would call “good work”. Check it out.
